I just got Ubuntu Linux 5.10, got it installed fine, but I can't figure out how to connect to my dial-up connection. I know there are thousands of posts like this, but I just can't figure it out. I have a Dell Dimension 3000, with whatever modem it comes with;) And even after I get my modem configured, how do I actually connect? Thanks!

i think this is how u do it. go to system, then administration, networking , then click on properties for modem connection enter your info and i think that should do it. im a noob so just try it, i might be wrong.
Tried messing around with that...not sure if I have the settings right though, because I don't even know how to try to connect after I have it set up.

Hi, I, too, am a n00b and have been struggled with the same issue as you.
See here:- http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=541525#post541525
I have another Linux program (Mepis) which works perfectly with Dial-up, so I know it is possible.
Plenty of people have been very helpful to me, so I'm sure I will be online soon and I hope this will be helpful to you.
Kind regards.
I have the Dell Latitude D505 (I hate it but that is besides the point ...) - It has a connexant modem (so you might have the same ...) so I am now using the driver at http://www.linuxant.com (I think that was it ...) - the free version gives you a very slow connection but it works ...
I used pppconfig to setup a dialup (external Hayes) modem and it works great. turn on modem lights on your top menu bar and you can hit "connect" and "disconnect" as needed. See the excellent Wiki page at

Hang in there! Unbuntu rules SugarLand2k / 5.10

Sounds like a good idea, and I've already tried pppconfig...but, I can't install pppconfig, because I can't compile the source, because I can't use the make command, because I need to download some package, which I can't do, because I can't connect to the internet:mad: lol. So I'm in a tight situation.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that "pppconfig" was installed from the Brezze 5.10 install CD for me.

Yeah, sorry, didn't mean pppconfig. Meant to say Gnome PPP.
