I am getting a new gaming PC for Christmas (The money for it anyways). So I was wondering how much I could get for my old PC to offset the cause. Here are the specs :
So how much do you think I could sell this for on Craigslist or Ebay?
Not much i sold a much beefier system on ebay for about $150, but who knows you may get lucky. That celeron is gonna make it even harder to sell to someone who knows what they are doing.
I would say sell it for about 200 to 300 on ebay.
UK price would be about £30 ($45 US)

With those specs I think it would sell for about 100-200 us dollars.
I would also suggest install windows on it only because of that being the most common os people use.(this will also make it where you don't get hated on after they get the machine)

Not the best time to be selling PCs, but it really depends on finding the right buyer. =] I'd guesstimate around $100 give or take. You should dig around and throw in a CRT monitor for the low.
Install XP, you will get more cash if you do that. Also clean it out a bit if you have not yet and if you can add another 512MB of RAM to it. That would sweeten the deal for the buyer.
So throw in an extra 1/2 gig RAM, install Windows, and try and find an old CRT?
Anything else?
Also is there a place where I can get for free or cheap (5-10 USD) a Win XP Pro OEM install disc? I would prefer not to use my personal license key

I'm not sure where to do so legally, other than checking at your local PC store or maybe second-hand shops for disks of the "reduced to clear" variety. Be wary of the "don't ask too many questions where it came from" variety: there's too much risk of legal hassles and unpleasant surprises (e.g. malware).
Think HP still sells restore discs?
You could install a restore partition to the HDD.

you'll be better off keeping it, just re-purpose it for something else.
If you add a CRT to the deal its gonna be heavy and shipping will cost alot more, so be careful and think it through before you go doing that.

I don't see much of a use for it that either my new computer won't do or I don't already have a computer for. I have everything from servers to my virus creation computer.

I have a computer intended for programming viruses on. It is not connected to any network, all USB ports have been locked with a special plug, no wireless of any type, and a few other methods to insure that the viruses I create do not get out except into places I wan't it to. Such as my testing intranet that gets reflashed with every trial whether I think it was infected or not.
I think $150 is a good estimate but you can start pricing it higher. . .

Making Malware is illegal in the United States, especially distributing it. Btw, HP voids the warranty if you change the partitions or add another operating system onto the computer, so chances are they won't send you a disk.

in that case, donate it to a charity, you'll get more in the form of a tax write off, which is usually several times it's worth. the last time i donated i got $500 in tax write off, for a system with crappier specs than you have.

Sod all to be honest. Ebay especially. Any method you use to sell where you have to post it is not going to be worth your while.
As for XP, you'd have to buy it to install it, so can't see much point in that.
if it still has the serial # sticker still on it, you can legally reinstall whatever OS was on there.
If you part it, you maybe able to get abit more cash, lust looked on ebay, and they have you graphics card on buy it now for £30 + £3 postage . i dont know what this is in $ right now.
Old PCs are worth a lot more broken up into parts than they are as a complete unit.
You'd be surprised how much things like optical drives and hard drives will go for on their own. You could probably get twice as much for the parts as you would for the whole machine.

I'm 14. Not much use for a tax write off :)
