Swap space

Can i add a swap partition for the installer to us. since i only have 32mb ram

Yeah. When editting the partition table through the installer make a swap partition of about 1GB. Although im not too sure Ubuntu will run on 32mb of RAM.

If you are talking about during the install, that will take care of itself. But, you will need a swap afterwards. You can set the size of the swap (and any other partion), when you get to that part in the install.

I'm new to Ubuntu myself, so I'm not real up on the partioner. But from what I remember, it was fairly simple to follow and use. Hopefully someone more expirenced than me will come along with better instructions.

Since you pretty challenged for ram, I'd set the swap at least at 128megs, but probably not more than 250megs, (won't do much good).

One last thing, Gnome might not even install with so little ram. Leaving you with no GUI, just the commandline. A best it might squawk and complain mightily!

i'am doing a server install then putting in fluxbox

would you suggest any distro that will run on 32mb of ram

How big is your HD? I would make a 512 MB Swap- but I LOVE overkill!

its small like a 1.5 gig but i wanted to install it on a external parrallel port hard drive.

Use at least 256MB swap- I had a pc with 256 MB ram and I topped out my 128 MB swap....

U can use the live CD and gparted to resise partitions and make a swap I think..

But since u r going to install again, u dont need to!

Ubuntu needs at least 2 gb to install- no smaller than 4 for actual use.
