Hi,
I'm about to install Ubuntu on a friend's laptop.
She's running Vista now (which she thinks sucks) and would actually like me to install WinXP instead. I've talked her in to trying Ubuntu first and I've decided to make it look and feel as much as WinXP as possible - both for the fun of it and to make sure she'll like it.
Any ideas on how to do this? I'd prefer step-by-step instructions to make sure it's a working theme without problems...
I would suggest the very opposite to your intentions. You might as well just use Windows XP. ;)
I think getting all her hardware working and whatnot is more important anyway. The appearance is trivial, but wireless? Codecs? Don't leave these things in a bad state for her to discover later on.

snova: She only uses it for web surfing and messenger. She's the kind of person who just clicks everything without thinking first => she's had some serious virus infections because of that. A restricted Ubuntu user account will be perfect for her needs. I'm not trying to make her believe it's XP - only to ease her transition as a first time linux user. And apart from that I think it's fun as a little project for me, hehe. ;)
