hey all, i recently broke my laptop monitor (not sure how...but the hp local guy said i overheated the videocard...and somehow the monitor broke?? [idiot]] ) and it is out of warranty, so instead of chucking it i hooked it up to an external display and when i booted up there were vertical orange/green colored lines that came on the external display when booting/running windows vista and on the monitor itself it was 80% pitch black and in between there were white lines that looked like lightning
so i popped in my ubuntu live cd (the backup cd that i use to fix broken computers) and i kinda had the same vertical lines and it would keep giving me an sr0 error that i just had to wait out and it loaded X/gnome.......but it had the same problem..... weird vertical lines
i then restarted popped in my arch cd and not only did the laptop monitor start working again it was flawless on the external display(Acer p243w btw)i should note that i did not install x yet, i am just running the terminal after loading arch which is good enough cuz atleast i can use that computer for torrents/irc while i use my other one for school/work
(i think the ubuntu livecd fixed the monitor problem but i don't want to try again because now arch is working perfectly.....for some reason...)
so i am running arch right now (my old distro) but i was wondering if there was a way to disable the laptop monitor completely and run the laptop directly to the display and thus use the display's max res of 1920x1200 instead of the monitors max 1440x900 ....
any comments would be appreciated
