Can't login as MythTV

I want my Mythbuntu system to log in automatically as MythtTV. Currently it auto logs in using my account.

I can login as mythtv manually. when logged in as mythtv although I can start myth frontend I can't watch live or recorded TV. Ahh I thought, I will add the mythtv user to the mythtv group but when I load up the user and groups gui the mythtv user isn't listed.

When I try to change the account that's used to auto login only mine is listed.

Any thoughts?

Silly question - why?

I have three machines with Mythbuntu 8.04 (i.e. MythTV 0.21) installed, a BE/FE and two remote frontends. All of them auto-login as the account created when installing - ie, not mythtv.

I'm pretty sure that's how things are supposed to work.

Why.

I leave the media centre logged in so people at home can watch tv etc. However I also use the box a lot remotely and use NX for a remote connection. Using NX stops the remote from launching MythTV.

Solution.

If I log into Myth locally using a different username when I NX with my account it won't mess up the local login. I thought using the MythTV account would be a good solution! What I've done is created an account called TV and I'll leave that logged in locally.

Ah, I see. Well I had to ask...

just curious... why not use root account for remote access? (it's what I do)

I like to have the desktop short cuts etc etc. Plus I try to avoid using root - don't want to get into "bad habbits".
