I accidentally deleted my trash applet. After getting a message that said there was a problem with my trash applet, it asked whether I should delete it or ignore, I accidentally chose to delete it. Now I have no trash applet, and there is no icon. I looked in Synaptic Package Manager to see if I could re-install it but there was nothing. Is there some way to re-install my trash applet?
My Ubuntu version is 8.04 LTS
No problem.
Right click on the bottom panel and select Add to panel
Select the Trash applet
Right click on your bottom panel and click "Add to Panel", find Trash icon in the list and then move it back to the end and "Lock it to Panel">>Right clicking on Trash icon

I get this when I try that:
The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_Panel_TrashApplet".
Then option asks: Don't delete, or Delete.
There definitely is something wrong. I tried to add a CPU meter to the panel and it says the same thing only replaced with OAFIID:GNOME_CPU_Meter, and it says that it encountered a problem. I think there may be something wrong with some configuration files but I have no idea how to fix that.
The only thing that I can sugest is to right click on the pannel and click on new pannel. Move it to the top of the screen and right click again. Then click on Add To Pannel and add everything that is on the broken one starting with the trash. After everything is added then delete the old one. You can add the trash to the desktop if you want. Let me know and I will find the how-to for that.

I tried to follow the instructions you gave me, but to no avail it did the same thing, it won't let me add it to the panel. I tried the top panel and it wouldn't add it. I have no idea how to diagnose this problem. If anyone knows how to diagnose things like this, please help me.
I was looking at the gnome web site. I didnt find any solutions. Most of the posts mentioned kde. Did you try to install kde? Im thinking that their might be some kind of conflict.

The only thing related to KDE that I installed was Amarok, though I don't know if that is the issue. Do you know if that would do it?
I checked out thier forum and none mentioned this. Have you tried reinstalled gnome?

I actually had to install GNOME - Core, which contains the applets that come with GNOME.Thanks for your help!
I was thinking that the applets was removed. So its working now?
