I use Gmail from the Gmail web site for my mail. I wanted to try out Evolution Mail and was wondering what is the best way for me to export my contacts from Gmail contacts into Evolution mail.

I'm using 8.10.

Well, there are two options. I'm messing around with both of them currently. I did a search and your post came up. The options are as follows:

1) Go to Gmail, go into your contacts, and click the Export button on the upper right. Save it as a .csv file. In Evolution, when you're in the Contacts pane, File > Import... and choose the .csv file you just downloaded from Gmail. This is a static list.

2) This is the method that I'm trying to work out. In the Contacts pane, you can right click in the listing of groups and choose to add a New Address Book. In the "Type" dropdown list, there is an option for Google. Follow the steps in the menu and it adds the address book. Voila! This is an address book that refreshes itself via Gmail.

However, I have had some problems with it, specifically that it has downloaded all but 4 of my contacts and I'm not sure why those 4 have been left out. Beyond that, it seems that Evolution has problems making Contact changes and then refreshing those changes on Gmail. I'm not sure if this is a bug or something not yet instituted, but it gives me Error: 3 yet doesn't explain which error this is. This is my reason for coming on here today and any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
