any ideas on kicking up xfce to make it interesting in Ubuntu..... it seems a wee bit faster but thats all....

What is your goal the question is kind of vague.
Xfce is faster and lighter, I use it myself with xubuntu, It works with Gnome and KDE apps and GTK 2.x Themes. It also has a compositor for transparency effects, Only thing is that it does not work with compiz. but I saw a compiz setup installer in the add/remove apps utillity I think ill take a look at that. Hope this enough

I am running compiz + emerald in Xubuntu (XFCE) without any problems. . .
I use xfce because I like to manage things without Gnome or Kde libraries :) Instead of using Compiz, it is possible to compile Beryl, since many users find the latter to be more efficient ))
Here's a month old thread regarding Xfce and Compiz, that I blew the dust off of yesterday with a question regarding the compositor. No help with my question so far, but it certainly applies to the OP's question in the first post.

I'm about to start using Xface. I have not really messed with it much.
I am sticking with Ubuntu, but I think XFCE is quicker than Gnome.... can I get compiz fusion and do interesting things with it anyway..??
