I want to shrink my windows drive 30 GB inorder to install ubuntu. There is over 40GB free but the Disk Management only allows me to shrink it by 11MB. Why is this?????

if memory serves me right windows is known to store things all over your drive. try defragging your hard drive a couple of times and then see if it will allow you to shrink it any more.

that was my thought. doing it right now.
If you can afford it, buy a new hard drive, and put it in one of the bays in your computer case. Install linux on this drive, and you won't need to shrink your existing drive. The original drive can stay inside your computer. To boot on to a particular drive, you need to go into CMOS and configure the boot sequence. You get into CMOS on most computers by holding down the delete button as the computer starts to boot. If you don't know how to do this, you can ask a computer savvy friend to help you.
I cannot put in another drive because its a laptop. I deleted more stuff of the drive and then installed ubuntu on it. Thanks for the tip though.
