Songbird hogs CPU

Banshee can be a bitch sometimes, that's why I switched to Songbird, which I thought went well, but man, it hogs my CPU like I can hardly do anything. I hate when my windows freeze and discolor for a few seconds, and when my other windows and applications stop responding. The reason I switched to Songbird from Banshee was because I was having (what I think are) gstreamer issues where my mp3s wouldn't play and every track would stay at 0:00 whenever I tried to play them.

Three questions:

Is there a lighter alternative to Songbird? Are my Banshee problems specifically for Banshee 1.4 users? If there are no other alternatives to Songbird, is there a way to moderate CPU usage with a specific utility?

Which version of Songbird are you using?

If you haven't upgraded to 1.0 yet (I think it just came out today) give it a try. I noticed a huge drop in CPU, and they claim in the release notes that CPU usage drops over 50% with the new release.

Good luck! +1 Personally, I use Amarok, but I did try the 1.0RC and it was much faster than previous versions.

I just downloaded and installed. i don't know what CPU usage you were seeing prior to v1.0, but I'm seeing at least 50%...
