Incomplete shut down

Hi,

I recently installed Ubuntu 8.10 using Wubi onto my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. When I shut down, the computer ends up with a black screen and flashing cursor. It doesn't power off.

Is there a fix for this?

I have to hit the power off button to get to where I can boot again in Windows or Ubuntu.

Is there a way to get Ubuntu to power off the Vostro on shutdown?
