can't run mondo rescue on ubuntu?

I downloaded mondo through synaptec manager on ubuntu and restarted the computer and I don't see where it got installed. Can someone tell me how can I run mondo rescue? Do I have to use the terminal? Or where is the installed program located?

Please help, i will appreciate any response, thanks.

The last error it complains about in the /var/log/mondoarchive.log file is this: Mindi v2.0.4-r2045 modinfo: could not find module libata But then it ends with "...ran just fine. :-)"

I looked for libata in Synaptec, but it is not found.

I had the same problem, running 9.10 64 bit using the version of Mondo from the repositories. One work around is to completely uninstall Mondo and then go to ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org/ubuntu/9.10/ to download mondo_2.2.9.1-1_amd64.deb. When you try to install it, you'll get a warning saying that a newer version exists in the repositories. Ignore it and install anyway.

I'm afraid I spoke too soon. It wasn't repeatable, and I can't use the archives I created to restore.

Right now, I'm thinking I may just install an earlier version of Ubuntu on a separate partition for the sole purpose of making Mondo backups.

I've also been wondering if it would be possible to put together a very light linux distribution that could run from a USB and whose sole function would be to make Mondo backups. Perhaps Damn Small Linux could be configured for that purpose?

This would help people who have kernels and/or distributions that create problems for Mondo/Mindi but who don't want to recompile or get their hands dirty.

That would be an interesting idea but I would suggest that you look at the mondo rescue site, to see if Bruno has done the appropriate build.

I have been using Ubuntu and Mondo for a while. Until recently I trusted it to generate good copies, until a recent update from Ubuntu or so I believe, that was the case. I used to be able to be able to use the CDRW drive but now I cannot verify nor use multiple disks reliably. Verify does not work nor compare, boy was I annoyed. After much experimentation, I have found that if I archive to a USB external drive all seems to work. I will burn to CDRWs if necessary. I am currently in the process of still checking it through, but I would suggest try to archive to an external USB HD drive.

PS I am currently running 8.04 on a test bed but it was an update that did the damage.

Also look at the FAQs on the mondorescue.org site because there is a reference to changing the update references for Ubuntu, because it is all too easy to have a working system and the Update manager updates it to an older version !!

FWIW I have a writable dvd mounted and recognized by Lucid..
