I still have vista on my computer and all of a sudden the sound decided to quit working in vista but works great in Ubuntu. . . . I normally use Ubuntu but i need vista sound to watch my tv shows in Amazon Unbox which only works in windows . . .
The sound seems to work fine according to sound applet that comes with vista
Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be?
In Vista, did you recently update the driver for your soundcard?
If so, try rolling back to a previous version.
I don't know how but it seems that Microsoft has released quite a few drivers lately that aren't perfectly stable for all hardware configurations.
Not nescessarily related: I know that currently there is an update for one of my drivers for my ethernet card and if I install it, it "breaks."

no i haven't i just did the hp update 'cause it kept bugging me and i couldn't figure out how to turn it off
