Hi. I'm kind of a Linux noob. I've been using Ubuntu for a few months now. I just recently got an external monitor and would like to hook it up. I've configured the xorg.conf file and added the Virtual section so that I could do this. However, once I get it working, I am unable to get compiz effects working. It didn't bother me for a few hours, but it gets real annoying when you try to minimize something and you see all the black lines... Anyways, I've tried Kubuntu in hopes that Beryl wouldn't do the same. It enabled effects but would just crash.

Is there anything I can do to get a dual screen AND compiz or beryl effects to work?

Stats: Laptop: Dell Inspiron E1505 Video Card: Intel 945 External Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 923nw

Thanks!

dude am also looking for the answer to that .. but it seems the 945gma has some hardware limitation that makes it impossible to run 3D acceleration on a dual screen hence its either u have compiz or u have a dual screen. u cant get both :(

That's a bummer =/ I can only get it working if the combined resolution is less than 2048 x 2048. However, that's far too low a resolution =P
