[SOLVED] Unable to Shut down PC = virus?

After saving an image to my pictures I was unable to close a file and unable to shut down my computer using the mouse. Nothing happened. Thus I erased the image. Could this be a virus? Should I do a restore with the CD?

I had to shut the computer off by pushing the button on the tower.

as the above post say the answer is no. it happens sometimes that a computer freeze and if you have enabled the desktop effects it can have something to do with that. no need to worry.

Well the computer is behaving as if it has a virus. For download for pictures at 1 forum very slow. Just over 10 mins. Took 2 mins to get to this page. Comcast says's there is nothing wrong with my connection. So I guess I have to start over again. I have everything save on a flash drives, but still it is time consuming. Also I am not getting notifications of replies.

Another problem I am having is logging into another forum. Strange behavior I am told means virus.

how many viruses have you encountered that create such a behaviour?

Comcast rep tells me the causes of slow download are cookies, history and viruses. History and cookies are set to be deleted after I close the virus. So I assume it is a virus. I know it is bad to assume. But even if I am wrong it seems my only alternative is to do a restore with the disk. At least restoring with ubuntu disk causes me no problems as with emachine restore disk. It is just such a waste of time. Is there anything else I can do?

What does trottle p2p mean?

If it is not a virus that I have. What can cause slow download with unbuntu?

Peer2Peer = file transfer protocol. Comcast does throttle p2p, so they are bold face liars.

Have you tried to reboot/reset your modem and router?

Were you running as root for anything? Did you make any changes to your computer recently?

You can see the network connections with "netstat -anp" Maybe you will find something suspicious like a process port scanning. You could also use the *top* command to see if there is a process taking up a an unusually large amount of CPU/memory.

I don't know what the cause of your problem is, but whether it's from an attack, or some kind of misconfiguration, the result may be the same-- to reformat.

I doubt I was running as root as all I do is log in. I don't understand how one runs as root. All I did before problem started was copy a picture.

I think it was attach of some sort, for this mounring I could not connect to the web or get my mail. I rebooted with ubuntu disk and could only get the home page. Now I have rebooted with windows xp.
