Graphical Diff Program

Heya ppl,

Is there any program to graphically display the diff between two files, similar to TortoiseMerge or WinDiff?

i have looked at several (kdiff3, beediff, diffuse, xxdiff, even colordiff (tui)).

of the gui ones, i personally like xxdiff the best, then meld, then kdiff3.

xxdiff is the fastest start-up, and snappiest scrolling.

style-wise i prefer xxdiff's more blocky appearance, which opens up space for missing lines (easier for me to grock), but i could see many people preferring meld's more graphical style, instead.

Normally I find answers to my ubuntu questions pretty darn quick, but this has to be *the* most concise journey I've ever taken to the answer I needed.

I tried out meld, and it does the job, and looks slick, but I also tried xxdiff because I like the blocky lined up approach it takes.

Also try Kompare (especially if you are using KDE).

Ok - there are many great graphical diff tools. But none of them seems to be able to print the beautified diff output. Does anyone know how to print out a nice graphical diff output?

Why not try DiffMerge, and then start voting again. What I think, and what I feel after using DiffMerge is that it is the best diff tool for Ubuntu. Especially if you are comparing it with WinMerge.. Yes.. if you have used WinMerge in Windows, then you will find DiffMerge as a great alternative to WinMerge.

I'm going to dig up this old thread to add Beyond Compare 3, if you don't mind paying for software (one license works for every computer you own, though). I've been a long-time customer, but I am going to try these other suggestions to see how they compare.

I just tried both xxdiff and meld. meld is my favorite. Very slick.

Meld seems to do the basics well...+1 for it...am still learning it, however... Nice, rapid change selections.
