Repeating Update Errors

I don't even know if people bother reading these but here goes. I updated from 7.10 to 8.04.

Now when I do updates, I get errors popping up on the screen.

E: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-22-generic: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 E: linux-image-generic: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured E: linux-generic: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

Overall performance has gone down.

If you open up a terminal window and run "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get upgrade" without the quotes, what response do you get?
