Hello All!
I have installed Ubuntu 5.10 on a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop and the display is stuck at 640x480. I have tried to reconfig via xserver-xorg, and it writes the changes to the xorg.conf file, but when I reboot...640x480! Nothing I have done so far seems to make a difference! I cannot change to any other rez!
Has anyone had a similar experience? thx !

Do you know what sort of graphics card you have?
have you tried using going to system->preferences->resolution? that should allow you to change your resolution in X server.
Yes, and all it gives me is 640x480 in the menu.
