hi. i am using jaunty on my new amd 64 and i have had the install a couple of days i guess. now i cant use firefox since it turns completely grey when a page is loading. is this a bug or a beta test syndrome. ? any one else have this problem .

thanks. :)

btw: i can really not use firefox so i am typing from a live cd as off right now. i can not post any outputs of anything just now.

I'm not sure that's firefox. I notice many programs do that when they're "thinking" or requiring a lot of CPU usage and blocking input.

thanks. i did think it was firefox as i use my computer mainly for internet so i use firefox the most. i been playing with the robocode game and i been trying to do stuff with audacity but none of them freeze or give a completely grey screen. . its strange if firefox should do all that "thinking" compared to a live cd with intrepid ibex. that should take more ram should it not. any way i just wanted to hear if anyone else seen this. my first idea was it could be a flash issue.,

thanks :)

I'm using Firefox and Jaunty on this AMD64 right now and have no problem. The only dimming I've seen is when an app pops up a dialog and the background app dims leaving the dialog bright, providing emphasis on the dialog. I presumed this was intentional as it seems a good idea to me - highlighting the dialog, which is requiring attention.

i get a whole grey screen and nothing responds for a while and i cant scroll up and down when it happens. i am starting to use live cd for internet if i know i have to rely on the connection. thanks for the post.

I think its what naddiseo said. Its happened to me a couple times before too with and without FF.

yes. it is that. i just think it is very much with jaunty by now. i started to see the same in other applications on intrepid as well. i use some movie editing programs and i record some music and then it starts to do the same thing also. i just do not have to stress firefox at all in jauntuy to get this total grey black out.

thanks.

That's a feature of Compiz. It grayscales X applications which stop responding. Sometimes this means the application is hung, others it means it's just doing a lot of processing.

Unfortunately I can't remember where the setting is...
