[SOLVED] When is it okay to "bump"?

Okay so I figured I would make this thread not only for myself but for others to see as well.

Just like anyone else, when I am working on a problem it's hard for me to stop before it's fixed. This being said I always try to research the problem before making a thread about it. However often times I am not so lucky to find the solution.

I know by "Bumping" a thread to soon some people will get upset.

So I am asking the community to keep the peace.

When is it okay to bump?

Once in twenty four hours.

It depends really...

You know we - the ones from the beginner team, or just the many of us who are so zealously helping here at the forums - we are not ignoring the posts. Sometimes it is just an issue which is too complex and difficult, even for us.:p

We are all volunteers and bumping too often may have the reverse effect.

Just use your common sense and all will be good.

Bumping is pretty self explanitory and just saying "bump" or "+1" works. But try to at least add in some additional information that could benefit those trying to answer the question. Sometimes just a little info will bring in more responses

Personally I'd wait 36. If nobody in my timezone has a solution, I reckon it's better to wait for some Australians, Canadians or Japanese to have a chance of a look :-D

i have never bumped a tread. it seems to intrusive to many people to have a "bump " too many times . if you want to make sure that you r questions are answered then do not start up with tread tittled " &%¤€!!¤ ubuntu " or " nOOb heeellllppp" but ask the question first in the post giving as descriptive information as possible. and you do not need to use a lot of lines to tell how great ubuntu is to get help ,we all know that since we use it our self and no one of us ever wrote the thing so its not something you_ have_ to use a lot of energy on telling us as opposed to just a short little and nice formulated question. then if it turns out there is a update in the situation a day or two after then post it. if it is urgent to you then bump is around 24 hours as a rule i think. too much bumping can give infractions and is really not needed. patience is a virtue. :)

disclaimer: these comments are just my opinion on the matter. i have not checked the official "bumping " rules lately.

I think if people are going to bump threads before they do they should recheck what they have original posted to see if they can add anything of importance relating to their issue and that the original post is clearly stating what the problem is. Maybe also adding some things they have tried since their original post. Bumping once in a 24 hour block seems reasonable. :)

Can I just add that if you do need to add information - don't make a new post - edit you first one - as soon as the thread has been bumped then it can't be found by those looking for threads with 0 replies.
