We have a lab of computers running XP with Intel graphics and Acer widescreen LCDs designed for 1400x900. With a driver update, we were able to set the resolution to 1400x900 and it seemed that everything was working great. Eventually we noticed that random computers would boot at 1024x768 or something instead of the correct one. Rebooting did not fix this. The fix is to shut down the computer, unplug the monitor, wait for it to shut down and sit for a few seconds, plug it back in, and then start the computer. After doing this, it always fixes itself, but the problems come back. Is this a hardware problem? Is there any way to fix it? Thanks.
LCD monitors randomly forget resolution?

just a suggestion, maybe check the acer support site in case there is a specific driver available for this type of monitor, if there is, and this is a known issue, there may be an update available for this particular issue (i'm assuming here the drivers you already updated were graphics drivers, not specifically for the monitor).
