I waited a little while to order my Darter when I saw that 8.10 was coming out. It seems a lot of people are having trouble with the upgrade and I didn't want to have those kinds of difficulties with my first Ubuntu machine. Anyone have problems with a 8.10 machine out of the box? If so, any problems?

If there are problems out of the box I'll be on these forums 24/7 the day i get my machine.

I don't have a Darter, but I do have a Pangolin that came with 8.10. A lot of the threads discussing problems after upgrading seem to be on the Pangolins, but I've only experienced one of the problems I've seen mentioned by the people upgrading, and that only happened once (no sound after resume from suspend).

Other than that, it's been smooth sailing for me, and this is my first Ubuntu experience.

Thanks for the response.

Were you able to remedy that problem with help from the forums?

I figured System76 would take care of the bugs so thats comforting.

#4

The fix for that bug was incorporated into the System76 driver.

Is it just bugs from 8.04 drivers that cause the issues I've been seeing? If so does System 76 update the drivers on a regular basis? I hope it would require minimal tweaking for future updates.

What kind of support does System76 offer? It seems that S76 has great customer support, which was one of the main reaons I felt comfortable buying my first Ubuntu machine from them.

I love love love my new Serval Pro. No problems. Intrepid seems to run better on it than Hardy does on my old machine.

The DARU3 I have came with 8.10. It's been very solid for me.

My Pangolin has been running flawlessly since I got it a month ago. Numerous updates since then have passed without error. Even connecting to a wireless network is effortless. An awesome laptop!

That's been my experience too. Wireless just works. Period. Everywhere I go.

Wish I could say the same for my wife's Dell with XP. Even her department's computer guru is mystified.

Hooray for Ubuntu!

These laptops are the embodiment of "Just Works". I have a pangolin, and I have to tell you, I'm ordering from s76 from now on for all of my laptop needs. I build my own desktops, so I don't buy them, all though, I was seriously tempted for the first time in four years. I only use AMD/ATI on everything else, but still, I couldn't help it. This thing is AMAZING. By the way, the service is incredible. when I ordered mine, they had a backlog. it was going to take a while to get there, so they put it on the three day express shipping, after my bargain one was gonna take too long. After that, it was going to take longer, so they upgraded me, again, to next day, free of charge. This place is great. I promise.
