Can I find out who gave me a referral ?

Hi there.

Is there some way I can find out who gave me a referral, much like my thanked posts? Or is it a secret I shall never know? :P

go to your public profile, then statistics and then you have the links there.

That tells you how many you have referred, not who was referred. I only know 1 person I referred, the rest I have no idea.

Just noticed that I have one - curious whodunnit, but I can line with not knowing (I guess).

Perhaps you could explain this one then. :) I noticed recently that I too have a single referral. Trouble is, there is not a single soul who knows me personally who also knows my Ubuntu forums nickname. I have told no one.

And, although I have accounts on other Linux forums, I use a different handle on them. So anyone impressed by how much I extol the virtues of Ubuntu forums :wink: and who decided to join UF because of that, wouldn't know who to put down as referrer.

Usually you get a referral from someone you have helped out here on the forums. I doesn't matter whether they know you or not.

Oh, I see. I misunderstood this referral business. I thought the referral box was ticked (in a manner of speaking) when someone signed up for an account as an acknowledgement to the one who had recommended them to join. I didn't realise that an already existing member could make a referral - as a sort of thankyou then?

I've been scratching my head over that referral ever since I noticed it.

AFAIK, it can only be set on sign-up -- there is no way to change or add a referral from an existing user.

From what I gather - when a user is signing up to the forums, there's a referral box, where they can enter the username of somebody who has referred them to the forums. It can't be set after that time :)

Sure - that's what I originally understood. The puzzle is that no one in the big wide real world out there knows me as "coffeecat", or knows that I use coffeecat as my nick on this forum.

Anyway, I've used up far too many electrons already. It's not important. I'll just leave it as one of life's big mysteries. :)

I managed to track my referrals down.

They were My younger Brother, a Work colleague and someone on IRC who I referred here, although I can't remember his nickname to save my life. :)

There is no harm in asking people, in casual conversation, of course.
