Embed .avi files on Firefox help

Hi I have a website and ive uploaded videos and embed them they are .avi format and they need windows media player to run normal in internet explorer. I am trying to play them in Firefox under Ubuntu can u help ive been trying to install some plug-ins but they didnt do the trick ... any ideas .. ? thx...
