i have problem !

i install fmit and use it

but when i use mic to turn the guitar,black pointer has no response! the pointer always in cents!

i haven't screen shot ....

how can i to solve this problem?

I am curious as to why your just not tuning by using the harmonics string to string, it will build your ear training up.

Coz if your recording or something you need the tuning to be exact to match other instruments. You can't tune by ear exactly enough.

I don't want to argue with you but your completely wrong have you ever seen a orchestra or a piano tuner use anything but their ear. In a orchestra 90 people tune to the lead or concert masters A.

Part of the problems some players for example guitar players encounter are learning with guitar tabs, a bad idea and relying on tuners. If your trying to tune while playing in a circumstance that it is so loud your can't hear the subtle vibrational difference between micro-pitch then a tuner is good but if you continue to rely on it your ear will not develop to where it should. If you do this enough and use a ear training method you may eventually develop acquired pitch which is a learned method of perfect pitch.

Piano tuners refer to a tuning fork to correct the pitch of the piano, then they tune every other string to that. Orchestras use the lead Oboe as it is an instrument that rarely varies in tuning. There is always a reference point - which is good, it helps your ears learn proper A440 tuning so that one day you can claim to have perfect pitch.

But you raise an ok argument about using your ears to tune whenever possible.

As for the issue of not getting fmit to work, have you read through the configuration page on their website: http://home.gna.org/fmit/configure.html In the main screen, click on the pair of tools to open the settings dialogue, then choose the capture tab, then select your current audio driver. If you're running Jack, use that, if you're not, use ALSA.

Your basically right a tuning fork is your best friend, in any orchestra I have played in it was the concert master 1st violin that everybody tuned to if it was even needed. A oboe can vary in pitch greatly the double reed has to be adjusted to be in tune, it is not in tune until you tune it. All the piano tuners I know have perfect pitch but will at times probably use a fork for reference.
