I installed Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex x86 32-bit on my laptop and it is running well and I can use software that does the tasks I want to do on my computer (use the Internet, listen to music, watch videos, write documents, burn to optical media, catalogue data, draw pictures, and so on). I don't need to use Windows any more and I am able to run my database in an open-source alternative to Microsoft Access, and I was able to check every line of the code to ensure that my information isn't being sent to a third party.
