hello everyone,

I recently installed a evga/nvidia geforce fx 5500 into my dell 2350 and when i booted into ubuntu breezy, i was suprised to see that my computer stalls when i get to hotplug.

I finally got to the startup screen and what i see is.... kernal panic- not syncing-fatal exception in interupt. Unable to handle kernal paging request.

I also tried using the "livecd" and it stopped at hotplug on there also.

If anyone has any ideas and knows how to get this to working, i would be so appricative. this really has me stumped.... i thought being a nvidia chipset, it would just work, but this one is being a pain

Thanks in advance

hmmm i have a dell dimension 2350 also and am having the same troubles with my ati radoen 9200 pci card. i've gotten that error plus "attempted to kill init" error. i've gone through all the howtos for drivers and everything, but nothing works. the only thing that let's me load ubuntu is when i switch video over to integrated in the bios. let me know if you ever figure this one out, i'm still working on it.

thanks, i just started using linux and have been trying out a few different distros. knoppix and fedora have troubles too. they all give me different error messages, but they all only work when i'm switch to using my onboard video. tried flashing my bios with the latest A02 but still nothing.

when I turn off hotplug at bootup then i can use my video card, but that brings up a load of other problems(such as no sound or internet). I guess it'd work if i knew how to manually do everything hotplug does, but I have no idea. I don't know n9uib, that's the best I can come up with so far.
