i seen many of these post where OP can not compile a test program using gcc. such as this one. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1003089

maybe put up a sticky as it seems that many times the only thing there is actually wrong is that the build-essential package is missing and people even the more experienced do not know this has to be installed trough trough apt-get. and for some reason people do not find the sticky in the programming talk section (or ask there ) where it is clearly and fully explained how to do this and also well documented with most other languages .

its just a suggestion of mine to do something so there will be lesser chance of people asking the same question again and again and then some of the post get moved to the programming talk section where its answered pretty quick by pointing OP to the sticky in that sub forum.

thanks for reading this :)

looking up on the tread i see i have sadly forgot to point OP to the programming talk and their sticky myself. but as i can see the tread is now closed . i feel that if somehow it was more easy to find the information in the first place then maybe a lot of trouble moving a tread so it can be closed shortly after could be avoided. in fact i have also found out that the package build-essentials is found on intrepid ibex which i think is great. i feel it should be installed per default so one can compile stuff when needed like many (most distros i tried ) does. but thats maybe a other place to ask this question. could anyting be done so the waste of staff time to move and close treads with fairly simple questions be avoided. other than that i feel the forums are pretty good organized. in fact they are already but this question pops up pretty much i think. for some reason this subject seems hard to spot for some users. thanks for reading this.

well, it appears that the thread was moved to programming talk because it started elsewhere. but the thread was closed for a different reason.

yes i see. i also posted this before the tread was even moved. and can see its now closed for anohter reason. i just think that i given the advise more than once to go read sticky n pt talk and some may not even need to learn programming but need to simply compile something from source which is maybe a reason why some just post in generel forums. but i must also say i been thinking about if my request is at all so important after all. as i said there is pretty good structure already but this is just not the first tread i come across with same problem. it is however still in my opnion just a matter of a simple little for those who want to have a c compiler instruction to which package that needs to be installed in a place where all can see it very easy. maybe i am just being too demanding :) i dont know....if i am then no need to discuss this at all then. it was just a little idea i had which i did think could make things a bit more easy. maybe it is not a biggie after all

edit: here is anohter of the same ones i have even gotten a thanks you for it. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6235610#post6235610

well given the thought i dont know if it can be more easy to do anyting to make it easyer at all. maybe not. thanks for the reply .
