how to move a layer in GIMP, for example move it to a corner of the image.

Hi Thank you for reading my post. Can someone please let me know how I can move a layer in GIMP? I just drag and drop a picture into a blank picture in GIMP and now I want to move that new picture which is a layer over the background to right bottom of the background picture but I do not know how it can be done.

I tried to drag it when holding shift or CTRL keys without luck.

You can use the move tool its in the toolbox menu, or you can use the shortcut key M and then just click and drag.

Theres the alignment tool in GIMP for what you are looking for. Just make sure you are on your layer, then click it and use the tool. :)

Sure. The alignment tool can work so well.

This is how I do it.

1, In the layer window select the layer you want to move. 2, Select the move tool, 3 left click the image to move the layer.

Warning: clicking on the wrong part of the image may pick the wrong layer.

"Use the tool", Great advice only the question is probably how to do that. I'm failing with this too. I have several layers and want to move one.

I click the move tool, click the image where the layer I want to move and drag. Except it always moves all layers together. I tried locking the other layers with the checkbox that shows a chain in the layer menu, not helping. Yes I have the right layer selected in the layer menu.
