Super new...

Hi there! So I'm brand new to Ubuntu. My husband got me all set up a few days ago. I was using Windows XP. I've never actually used Linux before until now. He gave me the link to these forums so that I could learn a bit. Just thought I'd post and tell you all how much I love it. Very easy to use. Gotta say that I love Gaim and Thunderbird. I also love how customizable it is. I have my desktop all tweaked now. :cool: I've been having some issues with the Gmail Notifier so I guess I'll be searching for some posts about that. My husband told me that this would be a good place to do that.

I do think that this could be my OS of choice from now on. Since using this for the first time, I haven't started XP. Not even once.

The last thing we have to do is get my favorites over here, and I'll be set.

Are you using firefox on both? If so you might want to setup a share with the other machine and transfer the file over.

I haven't done it ever myself but knowing the people from FF and how they operate I bet it's simple copy/paste of your bookmarks file :D

I was using FF on XP. It's the same computer though, so I'm not sure how it works. My husband knows, but has been pretty busy and hasn't had a chance to do it for me.

But my favorites are a mess anyway. I was using FF on XP, but still used IE for FTPing. Anyway, my favorites on IE were imported to FF, but I never really cleaned them up. I'm probably really botching this explanation, but I'm starting to think that I should just forget that the favorites existed at all and just start over. :rolleyes:

I do that with almost every re-install ;) I bookmark a lot and then always loose interest in it. My idea is that if I don't revisit it after an install it's not worth keeping ;)

If it's the same machine it's even better. You can MOUNT your harddisc and browse it.

Or what I also like doing with files is email it to myself: save bookmarks, make an email, keep the email open en close the emailclient so you just have the new email open. Send it and then fetch the email with ubuntu ;)

About the Gmail Notifier problem -

I actually have searched the forums for this, but I'm not finding anything...

Sometimes it just disappears from my panel. The space is still there, but the little icon is gone. Or, half of the icon is gone. It doesn't happen when I'm doing anything specific... I'll just be doing the normal surfing and I'll look up and it's gone.

I don't know which one I'm using... I can't seem to find any info on it.

Oh, and about mounting my disk and browsing to my favorites - THANKS! I did have a conversation about how the file system works on ubuntu vs. windows last night, and I found the mt folder. I will have to check that out.

Thanks for not making me feel like a moron. I am actually pretty computer literate... :-)
