[SOLVED] Surfing the web disabled after copying a picture.

I copyed a picture. Then to turn the compute off I had to push the button on the tower. The next few days surfing got slower and slower. Last night it took 2 minutes to get connected. This mourning I had no connection. I rebooted with ubuntu disk and still couldn't get on line. Only after booting windows xp disk and using comcast cd was I able to get on line.

I feel there should be something to scan litature and pictures copied on the web. At present it seems the only way to scan is to paste it in a letter and send it to myself. Then scan with clam. Scanning with rkhunter seems to only shows warnings. Doesn't seem to be any way to remove what is causing the warnings, only remove warnings.

what? are you trying to say you caught something in linux from a picture? not likely, the most plausible explanation is your modem settings went goofy, thus using the comcast cd would fix that. i have experienced similar with my modem when they do updates to the modem over the internet. a simple reset always fixes it, it's not an os, virus or spyware issue.

You can't get a virus from copying a picture. If you were listening to music or saving a document at the time you noticed the problem, you would think that would be the cause as well, but it isn't.

I say you just try reinstalling Ubuntu because it sounds like regardless of what happened, that's going to be the best solution.

Again I say I only copied a picture and I am unable to do a restore with the ubuntu disk. I dowloaded it but haven't read the instructions yet, for short on time.

It is possible someone at comcast did something and didn't tell me. I have found their trouble shooting minium.

Now I am using windows xp. To correct a problem with a program I had removed I use CCleaner. Afterwards rebooted with the ubuntu disk and saw 67% of disk load. Something got into my computer. Ubuntu is not 100% safe as many feel.

Previously when I did a restore with windows xp I wasn't able to get on line. They didn't think to tell me that I have to reinstall comcast with CD. They should have know that. I guess they can't think for themselves if it is something not on their sheet.

Well something attacked my computer. Ubuntu is not impregnable, as many tell me. After running a scan with superantispyware and CCleaner in windows ubuntu uploaded 74%. After I ran Avist viru scan I got ubuntu uploaded on the 2nd try.
