I had enough ! No way I will install Ubuntu anymore. Maybe in future, when it's for "humans".Whats the point of an OS if it doesnt support all the programs and you need Wine to use them?

Wine doesnt even support eveything, so why should I use Ubuntu? I agree its fast and clean but its not for normal people ! The majority of people doesnt want to learn something like ubuntu, its not for humans !

And I agree, vista is also bloatware and a piece of shiet OS. So ill go back to Windows XP ps3, when games and all the programs work. Sorry Ubuntu, I had enough.

I tried, I tried to like you, but you're not for humans, you're for nerds who's been programming all their lives and look down when talking to a girl. Enough said, Ill go back to windows. The only reason I changed to Ubuntu, was because everybody said its so much better and doesnt crash.

it didnt crash, it never did for me, but its overall a GEEKY OS. I guess I have to wait for ubuntu to become more human and Ill be glad to start over.

For an example, I tried to run CS in ubuntu, the sound was hacking and buggy. oh no. A LONG time to go.

I shouldnt really feed the trolls, but I must reply to this one.

You said "Maybe in future, when it's for "humans" - Well theres alot of humans here happy with it, what are you?

You said "Wine doesnt even support eveything, so why should I use Ubuntu?" Er, ok then but then, if youre wanting to run Windows software, why use Linux? I hardly see it a fault of Ubuntu if Wine doesnt run what you want.

You said "The majority of people doesnt want to learn something like ubuntu" - How would you know? Its obvious you dont, so perhaps XP is better for you. Failing that, if you check out "My first laptop" by Tomy, you'll need to learn even less.

You said "So ill go back to Windows XP ps3", and both have something in common, they are "dead platforms walking". XP is soon to be 2 generations behind the times, and Sony hasnt even made a profit on the PS3 which has been blown out of the water by WII sales. Need convincing? Check out your local store and see how much shelf space is dedicated to PS3 compared to WII (or even Xbox360)

You said "you're for nerds who's been programming all their lives and look down when talking to a girl." Well firstly my nieghbours kid (whos 12) has no problem with Ubuntu, and he's never coded anything in his life.

and as for "looking down when talking to a girl", well Im married with kids, I didnt have any trouble.

Id suggest you take your tantrum elsewhere. Maybe when youre a little older and realize that just because YOU cant work something doesnt mean nobody else can. Id also suggest you drop your stereotypes, as they prevent you from being taken seriously.

You gotta choose the tools that best suit what you're trying to do. Ranting about the chisel's perceived lack of capabilities when you really need a hammer might feel good, but it doesn't really get the house built or the bookcase installed...

I mean Windows XP SP3 and PS3 will sell more, it was just recently out for sales. xbox260 has been out for how long, 5 years? Give it some time.

And no, Ubuntu isnt YET for Humans. With humans, I mean normal people.

Use what works for you, and I'll use what works for me.

Sorry you have had a bad experience, but Ubuntu is not for running Windows software, that is what Windows is for. Ubuntu runs its own software, and that is what it is made for. If you only want to run Windows software, then please use Windows.

The good programs is made for Windows. I'm not saying windows is the best, but it fits the best for me now, all the programs I need, playing games, MSN.

installing ubuntu and then complaining that it doesn't run windows applications is nonsense. apparently you lack some very basic knowledge about computers and operating systems. start by searching wikipedia for both terms and try to understand why a windows applications won't run (natively) in linux and vice versa. actually I doubt you will do that since it's more than obvious that you chose to be an ignorant person, in that case try to run your favorite-application-compiled-for-linux in windows and see what happens.

I'll work that one out later ;-)

Use what works for you and are comfortable with, but I reckon you will will be back installing Ubuntu (or maybe even another distro). Might not be this year, next or even the year after that, but you will be back.

Have fun. :-\":-\"

Last time I checked, I was normal.

Im not going to take this off topic, and I dont think Ubuntu testimonials is the place to have a discussion about the PS3, but I would like you to consider the following before championing your PS3 (which is really the crux of the issue here is isnt it? Youre a console user who for whatever reason thought you would jump on the bandwagon of Linux, only to find that you may actually have to learn a few things on the way. Its a good job most "normal" humans dont hold with your philosophy or the Microchip probably would never have been developed in the first place.

The PS3 is on borrowed time, part of the reason why IS because the Xbox360 started the next gen sales. By the time PS3 jumped on, people already had a 360 and didnt think the PS3 offered enough of a difference to make another purchase. Then the WII turned up, original and more importantly fun. Sony is not breaking even with the sales. Shops are not stocking many titles, and PS3 is having to settle for 360 ports of its latest titles.

I am going off official sales figures here. WII is the only console actually making a profit, and next year will see the start of the hype for the next "next" gen of consoles.

The only reason Sony hasnt dropped PS3 (IMO) is the fact that they want to be able to pimp the PS4, by admitting failure in the PS3 it will harm the prospect of a PS4 take up and do nothing for the image of Sony.

Nintendo has won this generation of console wars. The sales figures say so, the games sellers say so. But more importantly the developers of games software are saying so.

Since games are what pushes a console, by this time next year Id expect the PS3 to be nothing more than an elaborate blueray player.

and before you ask, I used to have a 360, before I boycotted it. The kids have a WII, and I personally think consoles are a waste of my time. I dont play games.

#14

I respect your opinion, but the fact is, developers has oonly used ~10% of PS3 power in performance and graphics. Like Call of duty: wordd at war final front, NOW it was also made for ps2 and the graphics are very very good than other old ps2 games. PS3 is the same, when the developers uses the whole power of ps3, the games will be next gen.

The same with xbox360.

#15

Wait a second, do you think I'm that stupid? Lol, I know about computer further than you. Just because Ubuntu was annoying and didnt fit me, now im retarted lol? Think about it for a second.

#16

I bought a new electric oven, but there are no hookups for my gas line! I couldn't even figure out how to get the pilot lit! I'm sorry, but until they make electric stoved for humans, I'm going back to gas.

#17

Chill.

Ubuntu is a massive improvement for the average users.

Think of it this way. If you buy an Xbox do you expect to play playstation games on it.

Ubuntu is Linux. Windows is windows.

The fact that Wine exist is great. Just relax and use the tools for they are meant for.

You want open source adjustable software get linux, there are loads just look out there in the big wide web.

You want locked down put in and go software that costs varying amounts. Along with the risk of viruses every turn you take, then get Windows.

#18

I never said windows was superioir than ubuntu. But for an example, installing programs is pain. Thats one BIG minus.

#19

Please explain how opening a package manager with thousands upon thousands of packages just a search away is difficult. Click, apply, done

Not to mention sudo apt-get install "package"

If that is hard.....

#20

retskrad said: installing programs is pain. Bullsh....

You open Synaptic, you say what program you want, it goes and installs everything plus all the dependencies. If there is an update: fine, then all the components get updated too.

What could be easier than that??

You expected some kind of "Windows that is not Windows". Your fault then. You use Ubuntu and Linux in general for the wrong reasons.

Before you humiliate yourself any further, you might want to read this:

Linux is not Windows! http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm

Er ok. Since Im caught in the .net (sic) at work, and I develop software for a living (since the days of Devpac on the A500) I think your presuming quite alot.

By your own definition, since Ubuntu is for geeks, I must be one, since Ive had no problems with it.

I never said you were "retarded" and I find that term belittling and offensive.

Was it not you who mentioned "normal" people.

Since its obvious you are not here to contribute nor to offer proper testimonial, let me give you an example of how great specs can effect a console.

Youre probably too young (judging by your typing style) to be able to remember the Atari Jaguar. It was streets ahead in terms of specs in regards to the other consoles about at the time. It crashed and burned. Why? because nobody bought it. Developers need to be able to make money from software they develop, if they cant, it doesnt matter how powerful a system is.

Look at the WII, its got the lowest specs of the 3, yet its the most successful. Specs mean nothing.

Unlike you, I do know about console development, and whilst your 10% stat may be completely wrong (the PS3 IMO is more powerful than say the 360, but not massively so) the problem with the PS3, is that like all Sony consoles before it, it is the trickiest to code on. That, coupled with poor sales are the reasons why most PS3 titles are simply ports from the 360.

Tragically in porting to the PS3, there are problems, and this is why, even though the PS3 is the more powerful machine, the 360 versions are sometimes better, as the original code was not intended to be put on the PS3 in the first place

Do I think you stupid? No, although in terms of hardware knowledge, Id say you are lacking.

Do I think you misguided? Yes, just because you own something doesnt mean its the best and Im sorry to burst your PS3 bubble.

Anyway I digress, this forum has nothing to do with PS3's. If you want to talk toys I suggest you find a suitable venue to do it in.

If you Think Ubuntu is for GEEKS why dont you try Gentoo and tell me what you think in ubuntu then

#23

drvista said: If you Think Ubuntu is for GEEKS why dont you try Gentoo Gentoo? You must be kidding. Gentoo with its luxurious "emerge" command is still way too easy :D

Real über-über-geeks build their own distro from scratch:

Linux from Scratch http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/

... why *use* a Linux distro when you could instead *_build_* one? :D

(yes, I am joking and this my pathetic attempt at humor ... :D )

Just so Ive got this straight, he thinks Ubuntu is no good because Wine doesnt function as he wants?

Ok, it takes all sorts.

TimboUK said: Just so Ive got this straight, he thinks Ubuntu is no good because Wine doesnt function Nope. It gets even better: According to him Ubuntu "is not good" because he has to use WINE in the first place to get "all the good" programs running ...

That's what I meant in one of my previous posts: He switched for the wrong reasons. He wanted something "Windows-like" that at the same time didn't have all the flaws of Windows. He didn't really want Linux.

He'd probably be better served by trying e.g. a free Windows clone such as ReactOS ... http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html

This thread has brightened up my night! Since the MS trolls are avoiding Microsoft-Watch Ive had very little fun tonight!

no way will i install windows anymore. too many years of ********, and telling me what is legal and what is not. you are obviously not versed in computers, cause if you were, you would be having the time of your life. you are destined to use whatever your next door neighbor does.

Bartender another pint of the justification grog for everyone. ;)

Great little thread here, and as usual I always find the entertaining stuff when its time for bed!

It goes back to what I said in another topic.

Cant we have an "Ubuntu Tantrums" section?

Goodnight all.

It's like whining that you can't get your Nintendo DS games to work on your PSP.

Rather, I'm grateful that some whizzkid has come up with a cross-platform tweak that means I might be able to run my favorite old game on my new favorite OS.

I figure there's going to be a massive influx of this sort of thing with all these ultraportables shipping with Linux.

#32

I think there's been enough here.
