I am very confused :-(

I have been using mythbuntu 7.10 for a while now. Recently i have begun to use it more as a desktop machine. So i figure ill install some screensavers, they dont work, i install xscreensaver, they do work :-) All good, sort of.

Then i decide i want to be able to pop open the xscreensaver display via the settings menu where it says screensaver settings. However after sod all joy with alacarte i, out of pure interest changed the session type to xfce for the first time. Amazingly all my screensavers could suddenly be seen in the gnome screensaver preference dialog.

So on to my questions

1) What the f**k? Why can i see screensavers in the gnome screensaver prefs dialog in a xcfe session, but not when logged into a mythbuntu session? 2) In the xfce session i can use the main menu option from the settings menu (couldnt do that in a mythbuntu session) but changing the options seems to do sweet FA.

Can someone help me shed my ignorance before my brain dribbles out of my ears
