Hi,

I was planning on buying a studio 15 laptop and was wondering whether most of the things work. Specifically does the ethernet card(Wired and wireless), graphics card work (ATI 3450hd card)?

Thanks in advance.

Wired and wireless workd out of the box for me with Ubuntu 8.10 (32-bit version installed from Desktop CD). I have Intel graphics card, so can't help with ATI info.

Of other hardware, web camera is the most problematic for me - with some app works, with some doesn't but didn't put to much effort in finding the solution. FireWire, HDMI, Bluetooth, ExpressCard slot, microphone input and VGA output didn't try at all. Other: USBs, headphones, memory card reader, multimedia keys and Fn combination keys work.

Slight problem with headphones and Fn combos can be resolved by installing latest kernel from -proposed repository... If you need help with that, just ask :)

The first Studio 15 dell sent me had a faulty LCD panel. So did the second one. After six weeks of calls and emails to everyone I could get a hold of at both Dell and Canonical, Dell finally sent me one with a working LCD panel the third time around.

I was really impressed until I tried to use the webcam and found the internal mic wasn't working. Fixed that easily enough by going into Preferences menu from the mixer and enabling "Digital Capture."

Once again I was pleased, but today my wireless network card stopped working for seemingly no reason.

I would advise to you not to get a Dell laptop unless you want to spend 90% of your time troubleshooting it.
