Hey a noob here im just wondering if anyone has gotten the ATI HD 3200 fully working in Ubuntu 8.10 X64? I want my compiz, its the only reason i like linux, i have no loyalty except to eye candy.

yes I got - work on 8.10 and 8.04 as long as you install the suggested restricted drivers by the OS - DO NOT try to install the latest linux drivers from ATI-AMD website unless you like pain...

I had some random segfaults with the Beta driver that comes with 8.10 As soon as I upgraded the driver with the official release everything worked fine (although the 3200 is not a real performer though.) The driver from ATI is not that tough. use the automated installer then reboot.

It works, but it's annoying when you have compiz, when CPU is driven up for me on my x64 Phenom X3 1.83 GHz for just ONE of the three processors (IE: 80% or higher) in Ubuntu 8.10, the entire system will freeze for about a second or so. This only happens when compiz is enabled.

You can use Ubuntu 8.04 instead to get around this if it happens in the first place.
