Where can I buy a Remote control

I'm going to try a mythbuntu setup. I have a wintv 26552 card looks just like the pvr-150's It came to me from a working HP media center PC . I'm looking for a remote control I can use on the system , any tips on a good place to buy one. I have 2 x10 universal remotes if the usb IR devices will work with those then it's All I really need to get started. I have a Bell system mpeg2 4700 UHF model. From what I've read someone made a board that can be adapted to a UHF remote to run the receiver. I have no idea if it can use IR as well.

SO for now that's about it. I've searched around and have found a few on ebay but most are in hong kong. Thanks for any tips. Allan

I used ebay to buy my Microsoft mce remote. Works like a charm right out of the box.

There is a wiki but mythbuntu control center has an auto setup for the remote. You will need to use the info in the wiki if you want to use the IR Blast capabilities that comes with the remote.

seconded on the recommendation of an MCE remote- most every system i build has one and they work very well.

i would suggest you get one with a receiver and transmitter, tho... the link above was for remote only. i have ordered a dozen or so from ebay and have never paid more than $30 for remote, receiver and blaster, including shipping.

Oops my mistake. Yep get one with the usb ir receiver and ir blaster. Be sure that it is genuine Microsoft remote and not the imitation stuff on ebay.

I have a microsoft mce remote v2 on my original but I've built a frontend only one now that would need a new remote + ir receiver, but I can't find a new one anywhere. Atleast not in europe so far or even more ideally in finland. None of the US stores I've seen ones in ship Internationally.

I just want it to do 2 things, work on my mythbuntu 8.04 or 8.10 and have atleast one learning button that I can make it turn on/off my tv.

The remote doesn't have to be a Microsoft MCE remote + ir receiver as long as it works in mythbuntu out of the box or almost out of the box and has atleast 1 button that can be tought to switch tv on/off.

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

the transmitter part is easy- you can just buy any learning remote that has the keys you need and teach it from your MCE remote. You will however need a receiver. You should be able to use an old-fashioned lirc "homebrew" receiver that you can either solder together yourself or buy on the net- google "lirc homebrew". I believe there was a small outfit in Germany that ships internationally. When I had the homebrew receiver, I needed to do some additional installing - 7.10 did not automatically support it. Don't know how 8.10 handles it.
