So, I wiped Linpus off my AA1 and installed regular ubuntu, only problem is my 3 hour battery life is now 2 hours, I'd like to get some of that hour back.
Which Linux OS do you think would best replace Linpus, provide maximum battery life, yet still have maximum functionality?
I've been looking at ubuntu lite, would it save me any power?
Another type of bonnet construction in a gate valve is pressure seal bonnet. This construction is adopted for valves for high pressure service, typically in excess of 15 MPa (2250 psi). The better thing is that you disable some of the service which you dont want. if you are not using internet then disable the network card. it will not consume power. so you can save some energy
This is just off the cuff; but I have heard there is a Ubuntu MINI? or is this for handhelds??

I don't think many people would like using the netbook remix on regular laptops. The interface is aimed towards smaller screens.

i believe the aspire one is a netbook, and not a regular laptop:
I download the UNR iso but it just gets to a black screen and won't install.

Oh, sorry about that. I wasn't aware of that laptop. I have an Acer Aspire 4720z that came with Linpus Linux and I replaced it with Ubuntu. I thought that that particular laptop was another regular laptop from Acer.
I have an Aspire One that shipped with Linpus, and I put Ubuntu on it. I'm now getting 2 hours of battery life as well. So it's not just you, in case you were wondering :-)
I will PM you so maybe we can chat on MSN or something; I have a couple of things I want to try in order to get more battery life and I'll let you know how it goes. I also suspect the webcam might be turned on the whole while as well, so if I can find how to disable that, it would be a good start.
Anyone out there with Linpus still on their Aspire One: Could you do a uname -a and tell us if it's using "lpia" (Low Power Intel Architecture)? This may be part of the secret sauce that makes Linpus' battery life so long.

Glad i saw this because i was about to buy one of these little things. Are there any other suggestions for actual different distros out there other than the Ubuntu's?
Uname -a did not reveal lpia. I'm in no hurry to get rid of Linpus, it works quite well for me.

It appears Mandriva requires the less "tweaks" to get it up and working, from the posts there...
Fedora 10 with LXDE was working brilliantly on my AA1 .. until the latest update killed it.
uname -a on my AA1 does not show that setting.
I see no need to change the OS. Linpus seems to be well suited for this little machine. I have a full sized laptop running Kubuntu 8.04 so I see no need to do major things to my little guy.

Naiki: I like my little Aspire One, but I just need a bigger battery.
I believe both of us have followed all the instructions on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne; that was my bible for a few hours while I got it installed :-)
I'm running Xubuntu Gutsy with e17 on my Acer One upgraded with 1Gb of RAM and a faster SDD. Kernel is standard 2.6.24-22. I love it to bits, but battery life is exactly 2hrs.
I use it as a second machine at my office - running a 19" display at 1280x1024 no problems at all. It autodetects the screen at boot.
I'm looking forward to any developments that save power.
As far as the issue with the battery life, did you format the drive to EXT2 or EXT3?
From what I have read, this can make a difference in the battery life, especially on the models with a SSD.
Several users in the Arch community have installed Arch just fine on their AAO's.
