i am not able to install the nvidia drivers for my graphics card... my system config is 2ghz, 128 mb graphics card(geforce 8400)..... please help me out... i am using ubuntu 8.10....

please tell us more about your situation.
have you tried installing with the restricted driver manager? if so what happened?
System -> Administrator -> Hardware Driver. Choose nvidia version 177, install and restart ubuntu and you're good to go
i clicked on the background appearance option.... clicked on the normal option in graphics section.... notification appeared that i would be needing to install the graphics drivers of my nvidia card... i clicked on the install option, then a error msg got displayed,with a negative sign....
Post the exact output of the error message. Also, is the system online? IT must be to download the drivers. You may also need to enable the correct repositories in synaptic.
Thats my problem. I have windows xp as dual boot becuase should i run into problems running wow i would be able to have another os on my computer. What should i do about the restricted error im getting.

why don't you upgrade to 10.04?
