I resized my NTFS partition, now grub won't load. It gives an error (I think it was 17) then stops.

I tried booting with boot: rescue with install CD. It went through all the motions (I guess) then got to the point where it asked where to mount the boot (loader?). It gave a selection of what I guess were the partitions, starting with 1 through 5.

I thought there probably should be a 0 there. Anyway I chose no. 1 and it said it could not mount the boot loader there. So I chose 2 and it gave me an error and said it was going to reboot. It rebooted but got the same error.

I don't want to have to reinstall either windows or ubuntu if possible.

Suggestions please.

I have the same problem. After installing some auto-updates which didn't install successfully (apache2 packages and some other dependancies) I rebooted and ended up with a GRUB error 17... Seems to be a mounting problem... Please help!!
