Intrepid hangs regularly

Dear all,

I use 64 bit installation of ubuntu, whenever i use it for a while (5 hours or more) the system hangs and i can hear the clicking of the hard disk as if its being used to the max. I usually use eclipse and oracle xe. my laptop is a sony vaio with core 2 2.1 GHz, 2 GB ram, nvidia graphics 8400M .

Any help would be highly appreciated

Unfortunately I had to downgrade to hardy 32 bit because I didnt find a solution to the problem :(
