I may be in the wrong here. I'm man enough to admit it.

Firstly, about posts in the Community Cafe:

The Community Cafe

The Community Chat area is for lighthearted and enjoyable discussions, like you might find around a water cooler at work.

Almost any non-tech-support topic may be discussed here. Discussions on religion and politics are not allowed, except for politics directly related to free and open source issues. Any topic or discussion that causes problems or drama will be closed. This area is intended for fun and community building, not arguments. Please take those elsewhere. Thanks!Sounds like a happy little care-free place. I'd like to know more! I better check the CoC before I go and get crazy> 3. Profanity: Remember that the forums are used by people of all age groups and of all tolerance levels regarding profanity usage. When in the support areas of the forum, please try to keep your language polite and courteous and refrain from the usage of profanities. In the Cafe, mild profanity/swearing is permitted in the context of general speech. Explicit profanity/swearing is not allowed, and under no circumstances will we allow any profanity to be directed toward another person. Please see the Ubuntu Code of Conduct's requirements to "Be Considerate" and to "Be Respectful" and the descriptions given there for more exact specifications. A language filter is in place to catch any profanities that you may have accidentally used. Do not attempt to circumvent the language filter by using variations or slight misspellings of profanities.Well, wait. I know there has to be a catch somewhere. What about the *Forum Do's & Don'ts*? Specifically, Don't #7:> 7) Use txt lng in ur postz no1 likez 2 read itWell, OK. I can understand that in the general support forums. But this is the Cafe we're talking about. Fun? Light-hearted? Remember that?

Having said all that, I have a notice in my mailbox from ugm6hr saying he deleted one of my posts in the Cafe and issued me a warning.

If the OP requested it be removed, well OK. But, why wasn't I messaged about it by anyone? As such:

OP: "Hey, detroit! Your post in my thread about Linux's potential market share over the next few years is a little offensive. Think you could edit it for me? Thanks."

MOD: "Hey, detroit! Your post in that one guys thread about Linux's potential market share over the next few years is a little offensive. Think you could edit it? Otherwise I'll have to step in in an official capacity and neither of us wants that. Thanks."

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. OK. I can live with that. I would think that in a place touted as a "light-hearted" aside to the normal support forums and a place to bend any one of a number of rules, maybe this could have been handled differently?

Maybe not? I don't know.

What you may have meant as lighthearted may not come across the same way to others. While jesting with "mild profanity" and misogyny might be acceptable in your social circle, it's not behavior we'd like to foster in this community.

A warning is just a polite reminder that slightly crossed the line. And to that definition I believe it was issued appropriately in this case.

Then why does rule #3 of the CoC state:``` 3. Profanity: Remember that the forums are used by people of all age groups and of all tolerance levels regarding profanity usage. Where do you get off calling me misogynistic, anyway?

Lousy democrats.

It is clear from your recent two responses you are in no mood to constructively discuss this issue but would rather take this as an opportunity to bend the rules that somewhat apply and ignore the ones that you violate.

I am in no mood to spend my time playing these games. I've made it clear that your post was inappropriate for the Cafe and you refused to address that point and instead take the opportunity to attack me too.

You will gain your posting *privilege* in due time when you can demonstrate that conducting yourself in a positive manner is not a monumental challenge.

I fully support jdong and his actions in this matter.
