I think I am going to post this on the beginners board also may give a few of the doubters about linux a different view on things
To be somewhat fair, that was a fresh install of XP. There were probably other programs running in the background. Not that it accounts for THAt large a gap.
I ran a similar test, XP versus Ubuntu in a fyre animation render. XP took 4:22, Ubuntu took 0:22.

next time someone in the office suggests vista show this and use buzz words like productivity and lost hours.
I am glad to see the comparison was entirely internal with no dependence on stuff like CD burning which varies greatly by hardware.
I know my old 933 P-III with 1g ram and a 128 meg video card makes a great media room Ubuntu box.
I guess keeping people out of the eternal upgrade loop is another reason equipment manufacturers are not "hot" to support Linux.
