I'm still using GIMP 2.4.2 on Ubuntu 7.10 (can't upgrade the OS for a while) and saw this article (see screenshot) and was wondering if there is significant enough improvement between 2.4 and 2.6 to warrant going through the hassle of compiling 2.6 myself. Any thoughts about this?

I think that the menu bar being merged with the window is reason enough. 2.6 was more of a backend and superficial release though, not much new in tools and such.

From a user point of view brush dynamics is the only new feature I can think of.

From a developer point of view, more gegl.

:-) Thanks guys - think I'll just go with what I've got and do the OS upgrade later, and get the newer GIMP version in the process.
