Installing Homeworld: Assistance needed please

So, I just recently dusted off my Homeworld disc to install it on my Ubuntu Hardy Heron using wine and thought I had a problem free future ahead of me. For the most part, everything has been working fine. Wine loads up the setup file fine, it runs, but during the install I get an error. When the program begins to install the "Extra.big" or "Homeworld.big" (can't remember the name) about halfway through a window comes up and says,

"I/O error! File may be corrupted!" and then gives me the choice to retry or abort. If I retry, it simply repeats. If I abort, it freezes and I have to force quit. I'm really hoping this is an easily fixable problem and not an issue with my disc itself. Any ideas anyone?

Have you read this? I've not tried it, I don't have the game.

That was actually the first thing I tried :) The problem is, I haven't actually gotten far enough to see if my sound works or not. The installation keeps running into a problem.

So, I found out that the install file on the disk was actually corrupted, but I managed to borrow another disk and it installed fine (used my auth. key, so I needed to use my disk to play). I didn't actually try out the game itself, although it did start into the main menu fine, although with no sound which appears to be a common theme with this game under wine. However, another thing that occurred is that when I quit the game, an invisible layer stays over the desktop hiding the mouse until I xkill it from terminal. I think I'm going to stop bothering with Homeworld on here for now and just stick with playing it on my XP computer :(. Oh well.
