Oh my - I really love that! It world be a big step forward for Ubuntu, if something like that would become Jaunty Jackalope!

It'd require a huge change in the freedesktop specification, most likely embedding the menubar into the titlebar, using composite to make sure the window decoration still shows, and causing a heck of a problem for anyone who doesnt want to use it, each WM would need to be extensively patched. Im all against this idea.
Feel free to fork each and every major WM, X server and several applications/*tk's to show me this is worth one small change.
it's nicely mocked... It needs gtk to handle the window decoration, that idea has been running a long time.
The design reminds of something like iTunes. I'm not a fan of itunes.
UDS isn't even done with yet... no Jaunty artwork because they haven't started on it yet. I wouldn't be worried until March comes along and then if there is still no changes in artwork...
How does it remind you of iTunes? I happen to use iTunes when I'm in Vista and it looks nothing like it.
Merging the titlebar with the menu is good as loong as there is room to grab the "title bar" and move the window. Not everyone knows about alt-drag

Merge the titlebar with the menu... looks like itunes. Of course I'm talking of just the main feature of the artwork, not any of the gadgets in the widgetfactory.

Black or dark grey with a hint of orange is the way to go.
what about changing gtk so that it moves a window automatically when someone clicks on the menu- or toolbar?

Why should a distro drastically change its main color? Fedora is blue, OpenSuse is green, Ubuntu is brown. That's the way it is.

If you don't like brown then simply change it! I hardly think it's any reason to "jump ship". There are several themes to choose from or edit a current theme to what you want. If you don't like the wallpaper, again, pick one from the millions of photos/images on the web or use a photo of your own. Or alternative;y, if you're feeling more ambitious and able, design your own in one of the many paint apps around. When you have made one to your liking then upload it here for the rest of us to look at. If you like it there are bound to be others who do. Yet another way to contribute to the Ubuntu community :)

Well I guess some people are so delusional and in denial, it's sad really.
Seems strange but its easy to change the theme, background, etc. Why should this be an issue for you? If you don't like it, change it -- its not that hard.

Why do you guys give those "its not hard to change themes" replies? I mean, do you really think the other guy doesn't know that already? And if you know the other guy know, then why say it? What a waste of time.
Well, it seemed to me that "the other guy" didn't.
The thing that gets me about the "just change it" replies is that they've really missed the point completely. Why change anything in the distro if it's so easy to change? It comes up in every thread to do with the defaults - Rhythmbox for music, Firefox for web, Evolution for mail, etc.
Over and over - "if you don't like it, change it". Well - yeah, it *is* easy. For you. You know about the alternatives and possibilities.
But the point is, when you're first trying out Ubuntu, as a potential convert from whatever you were using before, I'm pretty sure that nearly every one of those potential converts says "Holy mother of ugly - that's bad".
And if you're a convert from a completely different O/S (ie not linux with gnome), you might have no idea how to change it and make it better. So wouldn't it be better if the initial experience is pleasing, instead of jarring?
Perhaps it was important for Ubuntu to "stand out" with the Warthog when it was first hitting the scene. Bizarrely, I'm pretty sure (in my opinion) that Ubuntu became a success, wholly *despite* the theme.
Oh, and its resize borders are too small. :p

Yes, and for obvious reasons. Ubuntu has always been orange. But it does not mean that EVERYTHING has to be orange.

Yes, absolutely. I agree with what you say except that I personally don't like dark themes.
Hi alex.rayu. Brown. Orange. It's often a fine line. The wallpapers are usually brown though.

Warty was just brown through and through. The orange looks to have been introduced around 6.06 (Dapper). Maybe those extra two months made all the difference!
Funnily enough, that Phoronix article (although old) finishes by claiming that Ubuntu's theme is now one of the most beautiful out there. I just can't agree with that personally.
Personally, I liked Hardy Heron best of all. Nice wallpaper and pleasant orange theme. I don't like dark themes (as I said) but I also don't go too much on bright blue or green (though preferable to bright blue) - I find the orange bright enough but also restful on the eyes.
