HELP!!!!! I got this Vivitar Digital Camera (the vivicam35 model) and it will not work with any of the programs I have tried to use it with. I was wondering if anyone had experience getting a driver like this or anything built for windows to work with WINE maybe? Is this possible? Could someone point me in the right direction>???!!!!!

Which programs have you tried? I had trouble with a Canon PowerShot S1 IS, and (rather inexplicably) it works ok with gtkam (available in universe repo). Otherwise, I've no experience using WINE for drivers. I have heard of using ndiswrapper for wireless cards, not sure if it's just a wireless thing, or suitable for all kinds of drivers... in the case of wireless cards it almost literally "wraps" itself around the windows driver (hence the name) and reads what goes in and out of it.

Tried GTKcam program, didn't work. Any sites dedicated to this sort of thing. Googled but didn't find anything related to my camera.

Is it usb? What did it do when you plugged it in? Have you tried digikam or f-spot? My new Kodak works without a hitch. My girlfiend mom's old mavica works on my box too, with no fiddling. I use f-spot as my organizer. I hate to say it, but I doubt you will need anything windows in order to make your digital camera function. Working with a windows driver/ program under wine is kinda like going around your elbow to get to your -you know where-.:D

It is a USB. But still no luck. I have tried almost every program I could find and they do list other models of the vivicam but not the vivicam35 by vivitar. Does anyone know where I could look for a generic driver or setting, or what? I am fairly new to hardware on Linux like this, but not to programing. If I just new where to start now, if someone can help please let me know whatever info you have!

I've experienced the same problem with my Samsung Digimax 420 camera. The driver wasn't anywhere on the net the last time I looked. With problems like ours, the best thing to do is either:

  1. Sit and wait, hoping someone somewhere will write the driver
  2. Write the driver!
  3. Install M$ Windows :???:

(Please note, the 3rd option is not recommended)
