fondly remembered no more

today was a day spent in XP hell and it ain't over. just when everything is going it updates on exit and everything goes south. this has made me seriously concerned. usually XP is a slam dunk. well as I remembered any way. never again. Ubuntu installs are over in an hour, this is day 2 on XP. one more bit of problem and I chuck the whole idea of triple booting so I have portable Quickbooks. I can live without it. [portable] to add insult to injury a McAfee update where Qb resides desktop loaded Ie with all kinds of junky tool bars and unwanted home page crud.

long live Ubuntu. it just works, with out all that [expletive deleted]

I think he'd be chucking XP, since he referred to his time with it as "XP Hell".

Personally, I like Windows XP. I just like Kubuntu 8.10 a lot more. :P

Im wondering why he decended into xp hell. Maybe it was a request from family or something. Haaving been there I understand. Or maybe it was an install on a seperate drive to use when working on someones windows system. I have one of those. It make a great paper weight when I dont need it.

never any problem with the adjacent 8.04 & 8.10 on the [flash]HDD.

I do wish intuit ported to linux but after installing their Quickbooks it is obviously not going to happen. QB installs MS net framework and windows installer 3, B4 proceeding with the QB.

they do however have a mac ver. but I have no mac experience.

PS; to be fair, I am in a bit over my head, trying to squeeze 3 OSs in to a dell mini-9

PPS xp deteriorated and is back off. maybe I will try wine.

If I remember correctly Intuit does acknowledge that Linux exits as there are instructions available on how to store the data files on a linux server. There may still be hope that they bring out a linux version.

I don't like, at least in Canada, how they disable the program every year if you need current tax tables, and the only way to get them, is to pay the money they ask to re-enable the program and update the tax tables.

Just put XP in a virtual machine, install is over in the time it takes for the installer to unpack itself, then you can have Quickbooks right there on your Linux desktop (in a round about sort of way)

GL and sorry you had to go there, I have empathy.

I have no virtual machine experience but that is the next step if todays efforts fail.

wiped the drive and setting xp at the front then ubuntu no network connection thus no AV needed in xp for the single app use more to follow.
