So this means, if I insert a Live CD (or boot into Windows, etc.) the home directory won't be able to be viewable, modifiable, right?

This is a phoronix review for the encryption feature. Basically is about encrypting entire /home dir and benchmarking. Interesting results and i'm waiting for the same review using a netbook.
I don't think I understand. So, if I have a separate encrypted /home and break my system, then reinstall, will I still be able to access my old data? If I try to access from another user's account, will I be asked for my password?
