HOLA, bueno tengo planeado formatear la pc en unos días y andaba viendo si podía hacer "rendir" un poco más mi hardware, tengo un disco de 180gibs, particionado(que esta vez voy a dividir en mitad para winxp y mitad linux), lo demás es, procesador: AMD Athlon64 +3000 1.8Ghz, RAM: 1Gib, VGA:Nvidia Geforce 7100 gs, lo demás creo qeu no cambia mucho, el mother es asus,y bueno, desde mitad de año vengo usando ubuntu(y win :S no lo puedo abandonar por los programas de "trabajo/estudio"), y aprendí bastante me gustó mucho no pensé que linux pudiera ser tan fácil como lo es, y ahora que voy a formatear no estoy tan temeroso de quizás probar otra alternativa, como estuve cuando puse por primera vez linux, anduve leyendo que Xubuntu es el que más "rinde" osea el más liviano, después vendría Kubuntu, y el más consumidor sería Ubuntu, ahora como Kubuntu consume menos que Ubuntu si tiene mucha más gráfica y boludeces lindas??, no se si hace falta que me expliquen con que me confirmen que es verdad que consume menos me basta, aa otra cosa por lo que se(y vi en el live cd) Kubuntu usa muchas aplicaciones diferentes a las de Ubuntu, aunque por lo que tengo entendido las puedo instalar si quiero(las aplicaciones que yo uso, en vez de konqueror, firefox, en vez de kopete amsn, etc), yo principalmente utilizo mi pc, para jugar, para lo habitual(msn, mail, navegar, etc), y para algunas cosas de la facu(gimp, programar, algo de blender(más por que quiero que por facu), etc), entonces cual de los tres me conviene para hacer que rinda más mi hardware?, no me interesa taaaaaaaanto que se vea lindo el OS(es más los efectos los volé en Ubuntu por que decían que bajaban el rendimiento en los juegos), pero si me interesa se vea bien, algo lindo, con cual lograría que los juegos anden mejor???, aaa otra cosa que me olvido, la versión que estuve usando era la x64, osea 64bits, tube algún que otro problema, pero la mayoría se solucionaron, solo algún que otro programa no pude instalar, pero bueno cuál creen me conviene la de 64bits o la de 32bits????(sea la versión de ubuntu que sea), bueno perdonen por lo extenso, espero opiniónes, chauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

En primer lugar te diria que con esa PC no te preocupes de rendimiento, tengo una parecida corriendo cosas muy pesadas y se la banca de 10!!!!
Ahora con cual de las 3(o mas....), cuando vas a la heladería, que te parece mejor, chocolate, vainilla o frutilla? Es igual, es solo gustos, yo prefiero gnome, por eso uso ubuntu, conozco muchos que prefieren KDE(kubuntu) y algunos XFCE(xubuntu).
Con lo de 32 y 64 bits, bueno, en mi experiencia los 64 bits corren el 99% de los programas, pro que, por que faltan algunos pocos que solo corren en 32, hasta ahora solo tuve problemas con 1 solo programa, el plugin de java, que no hay para linux de 64bits, pero el resto me anda todo de 10!!!
xubuntu anda de 10! ademas, como vos decis, te hace rendir mas tu PC y si, todo lo que quieras agregar/modificar lo podes hacer
yo soy de los que prefieren un simplisimo procesador de texto, con lo basico, antes que tener el estupido Office de microsoft con un perrito moviendo la patita que te consume memoria. (por ejemplo, uso el abiword antes que el open office)

salvo que sea muy común tener que ver pps; los subís a gmail y lo mirás desde allí jaja xD.
aún así mi recomendación es considera la suite de programas que te gustan. Si te gustan programas de gnome, y el desktop de bajo consumo de Xcfe; lo mejor es instalar ubuntu y ponerle xcfe. El rendimiento de un xubuntu con la suite de programas que usas en ubuntu.
yo creo que el orden de liviano a pesado es Xubuntu, ubuntu, Kubuntu... pero es mi opinion personal cuando probé todos los gustos en la versión gusty. Amo kopete y k9copy; pero no me gusta como se ve kde pero los iconos de oxigen son mis iconos, ahora y siempre.

Instalé ubuntu, le puse openbox (o sea: no xfce, no kde, no gnome) y corro la aplicaciones de la suite gnome y k9copy. No puedo decir que vuela, pero tengo un rendimiento que en xp no lo puedo ni soñar.
O sea, a lo que quiero hacer incapie. No te instales un gusto para después estar instalándote de a uno todos los programas de otra suite.

Es un Athlon64 3000+ a 1,8Ghz con 1 giga de RAM, o sea no me preocuparia por el rendimiento, las tres versiones te van a andar de 10 en esa maquina!!! No es de malas, pero si queres que rinda lo mas posible la verdad no va a ver tanta diferencia que justifique utilizar algo que no te guste pro el solo echo de conseguir un 1% mas de rendimiento por que con ese hard es eso nada mas, muy poco lo que vas a notar.
Yo en mi laptop uso Ubuntu 8.10 de 32 bits, y tengo un Celeron M520 @ 1.6Ghz, tengo 2 GB de RAM y Vuela, y volaba antes con el 8.04 y 512MB de RAM(Solo agregue RAM por que utilizo VirtualBox que la come cruda)
una vez que te anda optimo una cosa no va a andar mejor otra... ubuntu me anda rapido, xubuntu no puede andar MAS rapido.
Por cierto da para todo, proba Kubunu que kde4 es una masa.

uso openbox a secas. El cual al incio está pelado TOTALMENTE. Después de un tiempo y corregir algunas cosas se puede habitar.
El mayor problema es que hay nada de interfaz y hay que cargarlo todo.
Te dejo mis dos archivos de configuración por si estás interesado.
El rc xml te permite crear shortcuts, yo configuré algunos cuantos, entre ellos un alt+f2 con gmrun; obvio primero instala gmrun y cambié también el menú de openbox. El menú de openbox abre con click derecho y si está nautilus se roba ese click y te deja sin menu. Con ese archivo el menu de openbox es click con la ruedita del mouse.

yo uso gnome con gestor de ventanas openbox, pero se me hacia la curiosidad de saber como le habias hecho para usar openbox session si te viene todo pelado ;)

Lo de abajo, la barra, es awn y son las ventanas minimizadas. La verdad no entendí la pregunta =S
no me parecio que las ventanas estaban minimizadas al escritorio, es que en xfce si se puede hacer esa opccion
bueno lo que hize hasta el viernes que supongo formateo, es install kubuntu-desktop, y así tengo los dos, lo estoy probando y anda creo yo, en varios aspectos más rapido qeu gnome, ahora consulta es lo mismo isntalr gnome y arriba el kubuntu-desktop, o hacer la inversa instalar kde, y arriba isntalar ubuntu-desktop????

En principio el resultado final es lo mismo: Vas a tener un menu en cada caso con las opciones de cada entorno grafico al mismo tiempo. Es decir, si usas KDE vas a ver cosas de Gnome mezcladas con las propias de KDE (en su menu) y el conjunto aparecera como desvirtuado por la cantidad de opciones reiteradas para hacer (basicamente) las mismas acciones. Algo asi como superpoblado.

El rc xml te permite crear shortcuts, yo configuré algunos cuantos, entre ellos un alt+f2 con gmrun; obvio primero instala gmrun y cambié también el menú de openbox. El menú de openbox abre con click derecho y si está nautilus se roba ese click y te deja sin menu. Con ese archivo el menu de openbox es click con la ruedita del mouse.

pregunta: podes usar la papelera con esa secionn, por que a mi no me deja (uso LXDE)
A mi la papelera me funciona bien, ojalá se fuera al joraca xD
tengo un rígido chico y no me puedo dar el lujo de tener cosas "borradas"
jaja te cambio, es que a mi con lxde no me deja usar la papelera y como root en gnome tampoco. lo mas lindo es que ocupan disco igual

crea un archivo que se llame como guste, en el caso que pongo sería lala.la borralo para que termine en la papelera.

Lo dejas buscando el archivo, cuando lo encuentres vas a encontrar la carpeta para poder vaciarla.
